All 1997-2004 Corvette carpet sets are available with either replacement poly-backing or the original-style mass backing. Mass backing was Chevrolet's design enhancement to insulate the C5 interior compartment from both noise and heat. The heavy rubber carpet backing was molded to the rear of the carpet and provided the fit, comfort and acoustical properties they desired. Poly-backing is a more cost-efficient replacement to the mass backing and has proven it will withstand years of use. Perfect if you are trying to maintain your C5 Corvette and keep the cost reasonable.
